Seamless Solutions: Top Guide to Appliance Installation
So, you have decided to purchase a new appliance and are eagerly awaiting its arrival. Did you know that there are a few things that you can do in preparation, to make the installation process go more smoothly?
Here are some basic steps, regardless of whether it is a fridge, stove, washer, or dryer:
- First, you will need to either have removed the old appliance or arrange for the installers to remove it for you, so that you have space for the new appliance. If the installers are removing it, make sure that everything has been removed from inside the old appliance.
- Ensure the route to where the new appliance is going is clear of any furniture or obstacles and is wide enough for the new appliance to fit through. You may need to temporarily remove any handrails, bannisters, or narrow doors to accommodate the move.
- Check that the proper connections are in place, such as water lines and plumbing for washers, dishwashers, or fridges with water dispensers, and proper electrical outlets for stoves or dryers.
- Measure the space to ensure all dimensions such as width, height and depth will be adequate and still leave room for opening doors and any ventilation needs.
If you have completed these steps, your installation should not take much longer than an hour, but if you are unsure of some of the connection requirements above, read on for additional appliance specific steps.
Washers
Washers require a three-pronged, 110-volt outlet. There should also be hot and cold-water valves within a four-foot range of the appliance. Check that they are working properly and have standard metal connections.
Dryers (Gas & Electric)
Gas dryers also require a three-pronged, 110-volt outlet, and a proper ventilation outlet, as well as a gas shut-off valve with a standard metal connection.
If it is an electric dryer, a three or four-pronged, 220-volt outlet is needed with a proper ventilation outlet.
Fridges & Dishwashers
Both fridges & dishwashers require a three-pronged, 110-volt outlet with a water shut off valve within six feet. Ensure the valve is in working order with a standard metal connection.
Stoves (Gas & Electric)
Gas stoves require a three-pronged, 110-volt outlet with a gas shut-off valve that has a standard metal connection.
An electric stove requires a three or four-pronged, 220-volt outlet.
Planning A DIY Installation?
There is nothing worse than having your brand-new appliance delivered only to find that you do not have the right connections to make it work correctly. You will need to have all the proper tools and parts according to the appliance’s specific needs such as a new vent kit for a dryer, new water supply hoses for dishwashers, fridges with water dispensers, or wash machines, and new gas connectors for stoves and gas dryers.
